Msgr. Joseph P. Masiello came to Holy Trinity in 1995. He was ordained in 1969, completed his theological studies in Rome and was an assistant pastor in the parishes of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Jersey City and St. Peter`s in Belleville before several years on the staff of Immaculate Conception Seminary in Darlington. Following a brief assignment at St. Vincent`s Parish in Bayonne, Msgr. Masiello was appointed pastor of Our Lady of Mercy Parish in Jersey City. He was there for 9 1/2 years before his appointment as pastor of Holy Trinity. In 1997, the Holy Father bestowed upon him the title of Prelate of Honor, and he was made a Monsignor.



 


Sr. Joan Connelly, S.S.N.D.

Sr Joan comes to Holy Trinity with broad experience at the parish and diocesan levels.  After teaching in elementary and high schools, she served as a pastoral associate at Sacred Heart, Vailsburg, St. Michael, Cranford, and St. Aloysius, Jersey City.  Sr. Joan has worked in collaborative team ministry at parish, diocesan, and community levels; facilitated RENEW groups and trained liturgical ministers for service in the parish.  She is experienced in parish retreats and days of recollection, adult learning methods, group discernment, and is certified in spiritual direction. 

 

Her diocesan experience includes four years as Diocesan Consultant for RCIA and Adult Religious Formation, Diocese of Springfield, MA, 15 years as Instructor in adult religious formation and 20 years as Pastoral Associate.  She serves as Co-Director of the S.S.N.D. Associate Program, a group of women and men sharing the charism and affiliated spiritually and socially with the School Sisters of Notre Dame.

 

She holds a Master of Arts, Theology, Providence College, Providence, Rhode Island, Masters of Arts, American History, St. John`s University, Jamaica, New York.  She also attended Weston Jesuit School of Theology, Cambridge, MA.

sgr. Gerard H. McCarren, S.T.D., Assistant Professor, Systematic Theology, earned a B.A. from Yale, an M. Div. from Immaculate Conception Seminary School of Theology, and an S.T.L. and S.T.D. from The Catholic University of America. Ordained to the priesthood in 1991, Msgr. McCarren is a weekend assistant at Holy Trinity Church, Westfield. Msgr. McCarren’s area of expertise is John Henry Cardinal Newman; his doctoral dissertation was titled, “Test’ or ‘Notes’? A Critical Evaluation of the Criteria for Genuine Doctrinal Development in John Henry Newman’s Essay on the Development of Christian Ethics.” Msgr. McCarren recently was named to the Board of the Venerable John Henry Newman Association and served as program director for the Newman Conference of Summer 2002. He teaches such classes as Worship of the Church, and Eucharist. In May 2002, Msgr. McCarren was appointed by the Rector and Dean to serve as Director of Liturgy, effective July 2002
